Annual Summer Social

and Presentation of the Award of Excellence

to

The Honorable Orest A. Jejna
Municipal Court Judge, Scottsdale

The Award of Excellence recognizes an individual for outstanding service to the legal community.

Judge Jejna has served the City of Scottsdale for twenty years as an Associate judge of our City Court. He enjoys a well-earned reputation for being fair, professional and open-minded. He is patient even under difficult circumstances, yet able to decisively manage a busy trial courtroom.

Judge Jejna is a mentor to new judges, helping them to acclimate to judging. He is respected by both the prosecution and defense bar, affording both professional respect and politeness.

Judge Jejna achieved his undergraduate degree in 1976 for St. John Fisher College, Rochester, New York, and earned his law degree from the University of Puget Sound in 1979.

Prior to his ascension the bench, Judge Jejna was in private practice, concentrating in criminal defense and personal injury. While in private practice, he was one of the lead attorneys involved in the political asylum case involving a Soviet seaman who jumped into the Mississippi River to seek freedom in the United States. As a result of his work, he received an award from Americans for Human Rights in Ukraine. He has also been recognized by the Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix for his commitment to human rights and the American Ideal of the right of the individual to life, liberty and justice.

Judge Jejna is also an accomplished soccer coach and former soccer player. For a good portion of his life, he coached at the Sereno Soccer Club. He is a licensed coach holding a class C license with the United States Soccer Federation.

A native of Ukraine, Judge Jejna formed a joint venture with a business entity in Lviv, Ukraine, shortly after the breakup of the Soviet Union. Acting as a pioneer in starting a business in a new and uncharted area, his efforts created the first restaurant to serve pizza in the area.

Judge Jejna and his wife are longtime Scottsdale residents.
