Half of the presentation will focus on our lawyer regulation system with some tips on how to stay out of trouble—and gets you .5 ethics credit! Alex Vakula is a managing partner at the Vakula Law Firm and focuses his law practice on real estate and commercial litigation matters. He previously served on the Scottsdale Bar Board of Directors and was a member from 1987 until 1997 when he moved to Prescott. His brother Nick Vakula manages their law office on Tatum just north of Shea Boulevard. In addition to serving as President of the State Bar, Alex serves as the Yavapai County Chairman for the Doug Ducey for Governor campaign and as a board member of the Boys and Girls Club of Central Arizona. Alex also is a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum and has held an AV® Preeminent™ rating for over 20 years.
John Phelps currently serves as Chief Executive Officer and Director of the State Bar of Arizona. Before returning to Arizona to take his position with the State Bar, John served as Chief of Staff of the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) in Washington, D.C. Prior to his service in Washington, John served as Chief Operating Officer of the Grand Canyon Chapter of the American Red Cross in Phoenix, Arizona. John also previously served as Deputy Director of the Arizona Office of Homeland Security in the Office of the Governor of Arizona. The son of a career Army officer, John served nearly 25 years in the U.S. Army. He retired from active duty as a Colonel in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps in 2003.

Share the fun! Invite a friend to experience the networking, social and educational opportunities of the Scottsdale Bar Association! Current members may invite a prospective member to attend an upcoming lunch for free. Here are the rules:
1. The guest must be eligible for membership in the Scottsdale Bar Association. See www.scottsdalebar.org, click on Membership Information, then Membership Categories.
2. The guest cannot be a former Scottsdale Bar member.
3. The guest cannot have attended lunchfor free in the past.
4. The member must attend the luncheon with the guest.
5. The member must register him/herself for the luncheon, then contact Paige Martin at paigemartinesq@aol.com with the guest’s name and email address, and choice of regular or vegetarian meal, so that she can register the guest. Member registration and the request for guest registration must be completed before the registration cut-off on the Friday before the luncheon, at noon.
6. The member can only invite one guest to any luncheon.
7. The member is responsible for following up with his/her guest after the luncheon to invite the guest to join Scottsdale Bar.
8. The Board of Directors reserves the right to limit the number of guests attending each luncheon.
